Chakras & YogaDANCE ~ behind the scenes at KYD

Each Kripalu YogaDANCE (KYD) class is designed to move through the chakras.  Both music and movement are selected to connect with each of the 7 chakras—the energy centers of the body.

Classes begin in the earthy 1st Chakra with grounded movement and music, designed to put participants at ease and allow them to safely sink into their bodies.

“Come out from the circle of time into the circle of love” Rumi

The music slowly heats up in the 2cnd Chakra with blues, reggae, Latin and jazz tunes to invite movement from the hips and belly.  Our “dancing community” begins to form within this watery chakra as we continue to warm up the large muscles of the body.

The 3rd Chakra celebrates fire and power with rock, rap, disco, pop, world music and more.  This highly aerobic part of class continues for 20-30+ minutes as we transition into the 4th Chakra with dances from the heart; and then into the  playful, expressive 5th Chakra–which is often the most FUN of all!

“Live you life with arms wide open,” Unwritten

The 6th Chakra  integrates this newly expanded energy, inspiring both outer and inner “movement”; while the 7th Chakra spirals the class to an end with soft music, gentle relaxation and surrender.

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins.”
